I was at a wedding in the USA about a month ago and got to talking with a friend about living abroad, working online, and all that jazz.
He was asking me the same questions over and over again.
The same questions and concerns he’s talked to me about many times over the years.
“Do you think I can do it?”
“How would I make money online?”
“How do you make money online?”
“Where should I go in LatAm? You know me and what I like…”
“Is it actually pretty safe or more dangerous than you let on? I know you’ve been robbed.”
But this time was different…
He was desperate.
He’d just been laid off from his job. He was trying to find something else, but the market is bleak these days for obvious reasons.
Plus, he’d tried the “Corporate America” route for years. Living in multiple different cities in the USA, trying to find the right fit.
Nothing had stuck.
So we chat for an hour or so, and at the end of the convo my buddy goes:
“Alright, I’m ready to do it. What’s the first step?”
I quickly replied: “How much savings do you have?”
Him: “$50,000 or so.”
My response…
Cut the Cord
He looked at me blankly.
He wanted a 12-step plan to slowly start making money online and build a business.
He didn’t want three-words.
But those three-words were exactly what he needed. There’s only one way to make this lifestyle work for most men:
Cutting the cord.
Metaphorically speaking, you’ve gotta burn the ships.
You’ve gotta dive into the crystalline waters of LatAm — fully immersing yourself in the fun, freedom, adventure and bunda.
Book a one-way flight.
Have enough savings to last 6-12 months.
Start off by just enjoying life.
Go on adventures. Party all weekend long. Date as many women as possible.
Do whatever the fook’ you want to for a month or so. Truly enjoy yourself.
You’ve gotta convince your mind this is what you truly want in life.
How It Works
Then…
If you truly love it, if you want to make this type of lifestyle your life, your mind starts to work in magical ways.
You realize there’s no way you could go back to your old cubicle life in the USA.
Listening to your fat-ass boss talk gibberish on the Monday morning meetings.
The blue-haired HR girl giving you shit because you made a light-hearted comment that the other blue-haired co-worker of yours didn’t enjoy.
Getting told to take your work laptop home on the weekend to “stay-up-to-date” and other bullshit.
…All things of the past.
If you can just figure out how to make a living on the Internet.
Your mind knows this and the pain of potentially having to go back to your old life brings subconscious dread.
You begin finding solutions.
Executing on ideas.
Partying just a bit less than you’re first month in paradise because you don’t want the joy-ride to come to an end.
A few months later and the money starts to trickle in. You get your first sale or your first client.
Your small success pushes you further.
A few months later, you’re making $500 or so bucks a month. Still eating away at your savings, but making progress.
By the six-months mark, you’re making a few grand a month.
A year later, you’ve completely replaced your old salary and are actually saving money now.
While living a damn good life south of the border…no feminist HR freaks nagging you at every turn.
The Only Way™
I haven’t had a “job” since 2014.
Most of my friends who are “OG” travelers haven’t had a job in years, either.
We’ve all been doing this for years.
Why?
Because we knew exactly what we wanted, we “burned the ships” completely, and then made things work.
When you have no other options, you make things work.

Sadly, my friend isn’t taking action.
He’s still meandering around, trying to find a remote job, hoping it’ll give him the lifestyle he desires.
I truly hope it does, but I’m doubtful.
Because when your back is up against the wall and it’s time to make a massive change…
Cutting the cord is the only way forward.
