If you’re fond of perfect climates, low costs of living, rich history, and colonial architecture, allow me to introduce you to one of my favorite regions of Mexico: El Bajio!
For those unfamiliar, El Bajio – which simply means “The Lowlands” – refers to a particular geographical zone of Central Mexico.
It’s somewhat loosely defined. If you search the Bajio on Google, you’ll get mixed results regarding where exactly it covers and what states are part of it.
That said, it more-or-less encompasses the following states:
Aguascalientes
Guanajuato
Jalisco
Querétaro
Michoacán
San Luis Potosí
Zacatecas
And here are some of its notable cities:
Guadalajara, Jalisco
León, Guanajuato
Querétaro, Querétaro
San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí
Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes
Morelia, Michoacán
Zacatecas, Zacatecas
Guanajuato, Guanajuato
Let’s talk about what makes this one of Mexico’s most underrated regions, shall we?
P.S. This guide will NOT cover Guadalajara. That city is so large it deserves an entire guide of its own!
