Countries

I’ve been in Latin America since 2014.

During these 12+ years, I’ve lived in and/or visited damn near every country south of the border.

And I've done it every way imaginable…

From broke backpacker to living in penthouse apartments. From abject degenerate to raising 3 kids.

Nowadays, I write about what it's actually like to live and relocate to LatAm — for sovereign individuals and families.

Below, you'll find guides, stories, and everything the travel vloggers leave out.

Pick a country below. I'll give you the boots-on-the-ground breakdown.

South America

🇦🇷 Argentina 🇦🇷

One of the few LatAm countries that’s fantastic during all stages of life — from the single broski to the family man to the retiree. Oh, and Argentine Patagonia.

🇧🇴 Bolivia 🇧🇴

Dirt cheap, rough around the edges, wildly underrated in some respects — but certainly not for everyone. That’s the appeal.

🇧🇷 Brazil 🇧🇷

A continent disguised as a country. Known for many things — including beaches, bunda, and bureaucracy. The final frontier.

🇨🇱 Chile 🇨🇱

The most “first world” country in South America. Santiago is a fantastic city, but Chilean Patagonia is slept on. Oh, and don’t forget about Easter Island.

🇨🇴 Colombia 🇨🇴

The “darling of the dance” for years, everyone and their mother moved to Medellin for a bit there. Still an incredible country for the Spanish-speaking gringo to explore.

🇪🇨 Ecuador 🇪🇨

Retirees love it. Dollarized economy. Cuenca is a vibe if you don’t mind rain. Quito is one of the cheapest capital cities in all of Latin America.

🇵🇾 Paraguay 🇵🇾

Five years ago, no one knew anything about Paraguay. Now, it’s one of the most popular countries in South America, mainly due to the tax benefits.

🇵🇪 Peru 🇵🇪

Lima is underrated. The food is elite. The hiking throughout Peru is fantastic. Just make sure you come at the right time of the year — or you won’t see the sun for months on end.

🇺🇾 Uruguay 🇺🇾

It’s called South America’s “Switzerland” — and on some levels, that’s fairly accurate. Safe, stable, and expensive. Great beach towns here for 4-5 months of the year.

🇻🇪 Venezuela 🇻🇪

Beautiful country held hostage by its government. If that ends up changing, Venezuela might be the place to be the next decade.

Mexico

🇲🇽 Mexico 🇲🇽

30+ million tourists a year. The default LatAm country for Americans. The most functional and convenient country south of the border. Unique culture, fantastic food.

Central America

🇨🇷 Costa Rica 🇨🇷

Pura vida is a vibe until you see the cost of living. Incredibly beautiful. Ideal for vacation. Tough to live there long-term due to infrastructure issues.

🇸🇻 El Salvador 🇸🇻

Bitcoin nation. Bukele cleaned it up. Safe, but developing and still rough around the edges. World-class surf. Low cost of living too.

🇬🇹 Guatemala 🇬🇹

Antigua is gorgeous. Everything outside Antigua is an adventure. Probably isn’t high on the list for many reading this.

🇭🇳 Honduras 🇭🇳

Roatán is paradise. The mainland is a different conversation entirely. Most people skip it, and for good reason.

🇳🇮 Nicaragua 🇳🇮

Stunning, cheap, and politically unstable. If you're looking for low cost of living, surfing, and fantastic nature — Nicaragua fits the bill.

🇵🇦 Panama 🇵🇦

Dollarized economy, territorial taxes, first world banking. The infrastructure here is fantastic, the hospitals are good. Ideal for retirees and families.

Caribbean

🇨🇺 Cuba 🇨🇺

Frozen in time. Beautiful to visit. Impossible to live there, although that could be changing soon. Worth a week when you want to get away from screens.

🇩🇴 Dominican Republic 🇩🇴

Underrated country. Best city in the Caribbean — Santo Domingo — and it’s not even close. World-class beaches, but can be rough around the edges.

🇵🇷 Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

America's Caribbean tax haven. Act 60 put it on the map for sovereign individuals. Island life with a US passport. Not technically a country, but close enough.
